Chicago Housing Authority:

Many of the youth 1WORLD Sports works with throughout the year are part of the Chicago Housing Authority.  The Chicago Housing Authority is the largest owner of rental housing in the city of Chicago, providing homes to more than 50,000 families and individuals across the city.  The CHA also has a variety of opportunities for youth throughout the year.  1WORLD Sports works closely with CHA and its Family Works case workers to keep in close contact with the kids they all serve.  Kids who are meeting the goals they set with 1WORLD Sports get invited back to more "Events To Inspire".

Chicago Park District:

1WORLD Sports is starting a relationship with the Chicago Park District to help serve its kids and teach them about being responsible athletes.  The Chicago Park District provides activities for kids throughout the Chicago area and 1WORLD Sports will assist by providing its programming to these kids as well.

Healthy School Campaign (HSC):

1WORLD Sports and Healthy School Campaign work together to keep kids active and healthy.  Healthy Schools Campaign is a non-profit organization that advocates for policies and practices that allow all students, teachers and staff to learn and work in a healthy school environmnet.  In 2010, 1WOLRD Sports helped HSC train parents to become recess monitors in an effort to help local schools "Win Back Recess".   In 2011, the two teamed up to lead the PALA Challenge in Chicago.  More than 2,200 Chicago Public School students received the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award from the White House.

Illinois Youth Soccer Association’s Inner-City Program:

The Illinois Youth Soccer is the largest youth sports organization in the state with over 80,000 members. 1WORLD Sports is IYSA official partner in teaching these kids the important life lessons that can be learned from sports. Our focus has been on the IYSA Inner-City Program which works with over 1000 kids from the south and west side of Chicago.  During 2010, we taught 184 kids over a 10 week period our  “Responsibilities of an Athlete (ROA)” workbook.  “Responsibilities of an Athlete”.

Girls In the Game:

Girls in the Game is one of 1WORLD Sports’ first community partners. They bring fitness and sports programs to girls in the south-side and west-side of Chicago as after-school activities. 1WORLD Sports hosted a private movie screening of Michael Jordan’s, “To the Max” at Chicago’s Navy Pier Imax Theatre, raising approximately $6,500 for Girls in the Game. We continue to look for ways in which we can support this tremendous organization.

Chicago Area Runner Associations/ Road Scholars:

CARA is the largest running association in the Chicagoland area. CARA has a program called Road Scholars which is a mentorship program for CARA members to link up with high school students and sponsor their training for the Chicago Half-Marathon. 1WORLD Sports partnered with CARA/Road Scholars in 2010 and taught the students the “Responsibilities of an Athlete” workbook. Over the course of 10 weeks, 1WORLD Sports visited Rickover High School to teach the “Responsibilities of an Athlete” content to a select group of Road Scholar participants prior to their weekly training.

 Dreams For Kids:

1WORLD Sports is excited to work with Dreams For Kids in 2012.  The non-profit empowers at-risk youth and those with disabilities through dynamic leadership protrams.

   MyMVPs.com:

1WORLD Sports supports MyMVPs.com, an online sports community that allows amateur athletes to connect and share videos with other members and scouts.

The Sports Shed:

The Sports Shed is a non-profit that gives under-resourced kids opportunities to engage in sports and physical activiites that have positive impact on their health, self-steem, work ethic and sense of belonging.  It collects sports equipment and distributes it to other non-profits (like 1WORLD Sports) who offer sports related programs and are making a difference in kids lives in low income areas.

1World Sports' "Responsibilites of an Athlete" are at the core of the athlete's participation

  1. Teamwork. All sports take a team to success whether it's the players you are playing with, your coach or your family. We are all better in a team than individually. Learning how to work together is a key part of the 1World mission.
  2. Sportsmanship. Listen to your coaches and act in a manner that brings respect to yourself, your coaches, your family and 1World Sports.
  3. Education. The more knowledge you build off the field, the better your chances for success in life. Teachers are also your coaches in life, so you must listen, learn, participate and give 100% in school just as you would in sports.
  4. Attitude. One of sports great lessons is that things always to go your way. You don't always win. How an Athlete handles adversity says more about them as a person than when they are winning.
  5. Goals. Establishing goals – whether related to athletics, school or other activities – is a cornerstone of sports but also critical to achieving success in life.
  6. Practice. No athlete is good at their sport without practice. Honor your commitment to your sport by attending every practice and training yourself regularly.
  7. Personal Health. Take care of your physical condition outside your sport (no drugs, smoking or alcohol, and minimize consumption of fast food and sweets – "the body of an Athlete is for a lifetime").
  8. Community. Sport is about family and friends. Respect those you take the time to cheer for you, get you to the events and create the environment for you to succeed.
  9. Competition. There is nothing wrong with trying your best to win as long as it is done with class and sportsmanship. When you go on the field, pitch, rink or track always to your best.
  10. HAVE FUN. Remember that sports are games, and they are meant to be fun!

  1. What to Eat: Eating Healthy Foods. Maintaining a balanced and healthy diet is an essential part of being a healthy and fit athlete.
  2. When and How Much to Eat: Planning Your Meals. Timing and spacing your meals appropriately and eating healthy portions is a vital part of leading a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Fueling your Body for Sports. On game day, your body needs extra energy to perform at its best. Eating balanced meals that give you the right kind of sustainable energy is crucial to fueling your body for a game or even a practice.
  4. Hydrating your Body. In order to compete at your best you need to drink plenty of water before and after you compete. Your body loses lots of fluids, especially when you’re active, and replacing them is essential if you want to feel energized and healthy.
  5. Preparing to Compete. Properly warming up your mind and body helps you get ready for competition and prevents injury.
  6. Building your Endurance. All good, healthy athletes have the ability to exercise for a long period of time without getting exhausted.
  7. Strengthening your Body. Being healthy and achieving your athletic goals requires mental and physical strength.
  8. Building your Speed. The faster you are, the more powerful you become. Speed also helps you process and accomplish things faster, so you can beat your opponent to a spot.
  9. Healthy Mind and Healthy Body. Taking care of your body helps your brain perform well in school. There is a definite link between an active lifestyle and academic achievement.
  10. Becoming an Athlete for Life. By living a nutritious, active lifestyle you can ensure that you will be an “Athlete for Life,” and can pass on your knowledge to others.
