Programs

A major element of 1WORLD Sports delivering its mission to create heathly kids and responsible athletes is supporting specific programs designed to teach and encourage youth. We have three specific programs we support.

Take the Challenge!

On May 1, 2011, 1WORLD Sports introduced the 1WORLD Fitness Challenge to Chicago. 36 elite high school athletes competed for a chance to win the title for their school, of 1WORLD Sports High School Fitness Challenge Champions. These athletes competed in honor of 1WORLD Sports' mission and to inspire young athletes to follow in their footsteps. In support of their training and competing, 1WORLD Sports supporters contributed over $30,000.

Winning Back Recess

Today in most major cities less than half of public school children have access to recess. In fact in Chicago only 37% of kids have recess. Recess not only promote a child's physical fitness it is proven to help a child learn better, improve a child's social and teamwork skills and increase their focus during the school day. A major barrier to Recess for many public schools is resources thus 1WORLD Sports has partnered with the national Healthy School Campaign to Win Back Recess to train 250 parents impacting 15 schools by the end of 2011 to become recess monitors. In 2010, 1WORLD Sports taught its Recess Training Guide of over 75 parents.

Healthy Nutrition and Fitness Development

A major component of develop for a healthy child is eating healthy. 1WORLD Sports during 2011 is planning to partner with 5-10 chefs and 20 plus parents to develop healthy food choices for young athletes. Often at risk youth don’t have access to healthy eating choices while parents overall often are on the run and don’t have time to always prepare a proper meal. Thus, 1WORLD Sports focus will be on training children on what foods are best for their bodies and providing parents with reciepees and food ideas to encourage better eating habits. This is being done in partnership with our Moms for 1WORLD Sports Social Networking Community.

Supporting Girls in Sports

Today over 55% of kids under 17 in the United States are girls while only 30% of the kids participating in sports are girls. While there has been tremendous impact for programs such as Title IX much work needs to be done to encourage and create a positive environement for all girls to play sports. The positive social benefits of sports on a girls development is significant including clear decreasing in teen age pregnancy, higher grades and high school graduaton rates. 1WORLD Sports will focus on this issue by continuing its partnership with Girls in the Game and the film In the Game.
