Chicago Cubs Event to Inspire

CHICAGO, July 26, 2012— This month, 50 kids from the Chicago Housing Authority and the Chicago Park District will get to play ball at Little Cubs Field and meet their favorite Cubs players!

2012 High School Fitness Challenge

Bringing Together Elite High School Athletes and Disadvantaged Youth

On Sunday, April 22, 1WORLD Sports hosted its 2nd annual 1WORLD Sports High School Fitness Challenge at the University of Chicago. Elite high school athletes from eight Chicagoland schools competed against each other in a series of challenges ranging from push-ups to a mile run to earn the title of “High School of the Year”. As they competed, 1WORLD athletes from the Chicago Housing Authority were at their side.

1WORLD Kids See Hawks Game From Box!

Thanks to a generous donation from Aon Corporation, six 1WORLD kids got to watch a Chicago Blackhawk's game in first class style!  Aon donated its box at the United Center to 1WORLD Sports so the non-profit could treat some special kids to a game on Wednesday, March 21.

Following the 1WORLD Sports "Event to Inspire" with the Chicago Blackhawk's in January, all sixty kids who attended were given the opportunity to write an essay about their experience and what they learned.  The top six essay writers were chosen to go to the game!

Loyola Academy Inspire 1WORLD kids

On February 19, 2012 1World Sports brought together kids from the Chicago Housing Authority and high school hockey players from Loyola Academy for an afternoon fun and team building exercises. It was truly magical to see what took place that day. Take a look:

New Trier Senior Named Volunteer of the Year

WINNETKA, IL— On Saturday, December 10, 1World Sports presented New Trier senior, Hannah Merens, with its ‘Volunteer Of The Year’ award.  Hannah accepted the award on the ice just before her hockey game at Winnetka Ice Arena.

1WORLD Sports Helps CPS Kids Finish PALA

CHICAGO, IL-- On Monday, November 14, 2011, 1WORLD Sports threw two celebrations to honor the nearly 3,000 Chicago Public School students from 18 schools who completed the PALA Challenge.  The celebrations were hosted with help from our partners at Healthy Schools Campaign and Chicago Public Schools, at Robert Black Elementary School and Walsh Elementary School, where kids did exceptionally well staying active to earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA).

Northwestern's Fitzgerald Earns Coaching Honor

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald has been named the inaugural 1WORLD Sports Coach of the Year, the organization announced at its first-annual Fitness Festival and banquet on Sunday, May 1.

Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald has been named the inaugural 1WORLD Sports Coach of the Year, the organization announced Sunday at its first annual Fitness Festival and banquet.

Founded by Ted Devine, 1WORLD Sports' mission is to educate, motivate and inspire underprivileged youth through sports to become both better athletes and people.

Fitzgerald earned the honor based on the criteria of academics, community and teamwork.

Kids from CHA get ice time with Blackhawks' Keith

Damikio Gilbert figured he had the skating part of hockey down by his third lap around the rink Thursday at Johnny's Ice House West on the West Side.
"I fell a couple times but I think I have the skating down," Gilbert said. "It was good."
Gilbert, 13, was one of 60 boys and girls from the Chicago Housing Authority who took part in the on-ice clinic organized by 1World Sports and the Chicago Blackhawks.
