2012 High School Fitness Challenge

Bringing Together Elite High School Athletes and Disadvantaged Youth

On Sunday, April 22, 1WORLD Sports hosted its 2nd annual 1WORLD Sports High School Fitness Challenge at the University of Chicago. Elite high school athletes from eight Chicagoland schools competed against each other in a series of challenges ranging from push-ups to a mile run to earn the title of “High School of the Year”. As they competed, 1WORLD athletes from the Chicago Housing Authority were at their side.

Throughout the year, 1WORLD Sports hosts “Events to Inspire” for disadvantaged youth in the Chicago area, teaching them valuable life lessons about nutrition, teamwork and education through unique events with professional sports organizations in Chicago. At the High School Fitness Challenge, the youth we serve have the opportunity to meet and form relationships with successful high school athletes.

This year, eight local schools competed in the challenge and inspired 1WORLD youth: Chicago Military Academy, Christo Rey, Lane Tech, Latin School of Chicago, Loyola, Luther North, Muchin, and University of Chicago Laboratory School. Latin School of Chicago came away with the title of High School of the Year! Following the event, all attendees were invited to a banquet hosted by Chet Coppock. Here, one of our 1WORLD athletes read an essay about how 1WORLD Sports has impacted his life. It was an amazing day.

We'd like to thank the following sponsors for helping make the event possible: Accretive, ADM, Bankers Financial Corporation, CNA, Greater Than, The Hartford, Insureon, MYZONE, Philadelphia Insurance, PricewaterhouseCoopers, McKinsey & Company, Sports Awards and TSMGI.
